Roues libres

Petite mécanique des objets animés (Small mechanics of animated objects)

Invited by the Designer's Days design festival (Paris, May 20-25, 2014) with "Movement" as a red thread for the whole events, Fabien Petiot and Isabelle Daëron gathered a group of designers within the beautiful space of a former manufacture in the Passage de Retz.

A veritable laboratory of ideas for tomorrow's world, 'Roues Libres' highlights the research of a new generation of international designers, as whimsical as they are rigorous, who combine form and function, awareness and poetry.

As a think tank for exploring the world of tomorrow, 'Roues Libres' highlights the research of a new generation of international designers, both fanciful and thorough, who combine form and function, awareness and poetry.  At a time of reflection on sustainable development and energy dependency, why not reinvent the wheel? Or almost... Starting from this finished product, perfect and unsurpassable, the exhibition gathers objects turned towards the constant movement of individuals, the rediscovered visibility of the mechanical and a new use of forces. In motion, to be observed or touched, all these original proposals, specially conceived for the exhibition, integrate the wheel into a reinvented plastic vocabulary. These proposals are accompanied by a revised history of the wheel, another way of identifying the full thickness of this not-so-simple object.
